Stainless Steel 310S Hex Bar/Rod is a low-carbon, high-chromium (24–26%) and nickel (19–22%) austenitic stainless steel alloy. With a maximum carbon content of just 0.08%, it minimizes carbide precipitation and enhances resistance to intergranular corrosion, particularly after welding. Its mechanical properties boast a tensile strength of around 75 ksi (515 MPa), yield strength close to 30 ksi (205 MPa), and an elongation of about 40%. This alloy excels in mechanical stability and oxidation resistance at high temperatures, typically reaching up to 1100°C.

SS 310S hex bars/rods are primarily used in high-temperature applications, such as furnace components, heat exchangers, and petrochemical industries. They are also employed in the manufacturing of furnace parts, chimney liners, catalytic reactors, and welding electrodes due to their excellent oxidation, corrosion resistance, and strength at elevated temperatures.
SS 310S offers superior corrosion resistance compared to many other stainless steel grades, especially at high temperatures, due to its higher chromium and nickel content. It excels in resisting oxidation and scaling at temperatures up to 1100°C (2012°F), making it more heat-resistant than grades like SS 304 or SS 316.
Common manufacturing processes for SS 310S hex bars/rods include hot rolling, cold drawing, and extrusion. These methods shape the alloy into hexagonal rods while maintaining its mechanical properties. Heat treatment processes like annealing are also used to enhance corrosion resistance and improve the material's strength and ductility.
Stainless Steel 310S Hex Bars and Rods find extensive use in applications that demand superior heat resistance and corrosion protection. They are commonly utilized in furnace parts, heat exchangers, kiln linings, and components that face oxidizing environments. The hexagonal shape makes machining and handling easier for precise fabrication. Industries such as petrochemical, aerospace, and power generation rely on 310S hex bars and rods for consistent performance in high-temperature and corrosive settings, ensuring a long service life and safety.
