Stainless Steel 440C (UNS S44004) is made up of about 16–18% Chromium and 0.95–1.20% Carbon, along with small amounts of Manganese, Silicon, Molybdenum, and Phosphorus. It can be heat-treated to achieve the highest hardness of any stainless steel, reaching up to 60 HRC. The typical tensile strength falls between 760 to 1030 MPa, with a yield strength around 450 MPa. This martensitic grade is known for its high wear resistance and good dimensional stability. While its corrosion resistance isn’t as strong as austenitic grades, it holds up well in mildly corrosive environments, especially when polished and passivated.
